Dr. Koichi Murata received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering and the Ph.D degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan, in 1987 and 1989, and 2003, respectively.
In 1989, he joined LSI laboratories, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), Atsugi Japan. After joining NTT, He engaged high-speed mixed-signal circuit design for long-haul optical transmission systems. He became a group leader, Senior Research Engineer, Supervisor, of NTT Photonics Laboratories in 2006, a senior manager of high-speed Devices and Technology Laboratory, NTT Photonics Laboratories in 2013, and a senior manager of Metro-Access Network Device Project, NTT Device Innovation Center in 2014. After leaving NTT, he joined GigPeak Inc. (previously GigOptix Inc.) in San Jose, CA USA. He is currently the senior director of marketing telecom products.
During his carrier in the research and developments, he has 96 individual patents awarded or allowed in 69 in Japan, 27 in oversea including 6 in US, and more than 90 academic and scholarly full-papers and letters in professional journals in IEEE, IEE and IEICE Japan, and 70 presentations including 14 invited talks in international conference and symposium organized and sponsored by those organizations. He is a winner of 1997 IEEE GaAs Symposium Outstanding Paper Award, the 23rd. Kenjiro Sakurai Memorial Prize of OITDA, and 2010 IEICE Transaction C (Japanese) Best Paper Award. He is a member of IEEE and a senior member of IEICE Japan.
He has served as a Technical Committee member of IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT-9), as a Technical Paper Review Committee of IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS), and as a Technical Program Committee of IEEE Bipolar/BiCMOS Circuit and Technology Meeting (BCTM), IEEE Compound Semiconductor and Integrated Circuits (CSICS), the 17th Indium Phosphide and Related Materials Conference (IPRM) and Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC).
